Reading the interview I realized Ferret is nothing but http://lucene.apache.org/ port for Ruby. Lucene is a very good piece of code (I have been playing with it for about 2+ yrs) and it is nice of Doug Cutting to make it open source.

I was surprised to see the benchmarks at http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/wiki/MyFirstBenchmark that indicates that Ferret is faster than Lucene when it comes to indexing but slower for search.

Anyway, good to know Coupa is using a good text searching library.
